Sardinia island in the Mediterranean, is home to thousands of nuraghes ancient stone structures built by the Nuragic civilization between the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age (about 1900–730 BCE). These megalithic structures are unique to Sardinia, and their purpose is still debated, but they are thought to have served as fortresses, religious centers, or dwelling places.
