ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES.

Sardinia island in the Mediterranean, is home to thousands of nuraghes ancient stone structures built by the Nuragic civilization between the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age (about 1900–730 BCE). These megalithic structures are unique to Sardinia, and their purpose is still debated, but they are thought to have served as fortresses, religious centers, or dwelling places.

CAGLIARI

While it's not possible to list all the nuraghes on the island due to their sheer number (there are over 7,000 scattered across Sardinia), here you can find a list of the most famous and significant nuragic sites. These are some of the key nuraghes that have been well-preserved or are particularly important for their historical value.

Nuraghe Su Nuraxi (Barumini)

One of the most famous and best-preserved nuraghes, located in the central part of the island. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and includes a complex of towers, courtyards, and a surrounding village.

Nuraghe Losa (Abbasanta)

A well-preserved single-tower nuraghe with a complex layout. It is located in the central-western part of Sardinia.

Nuraghe Santu Antine (Torralba)

A large and impressive nuraghe, considered one of the most significant in terms of structure and preservation. It has a well-defined central tower and several surrounding walls.

Nuraghe Arrubiu (Orroli)

This nuraghe is known for its massive red stones and is one of the most monumental examples of Nuragic architecture. It has a large central tower and multiple smaller towers.

Nuraghe Palmavera (Alghero)

Located near the coast, this nuraghe complex includes a central tower and a small village of dwellings, offering a fascinating insight into Nuragic life.

Nuraghe Torralba (Torralba)

Not to be confused with Nuraghe Santu Antine, this nuraghe is also significant and provides a glimpse into the advanced engineering techniques of the Nuragic people.

Nuraghe Cuccurada (Mogoro)

Located in the south-central part of Sardinia, this nuraghe is famous for its preserved structure and the rich archaeological findings around it.

Nuraghe Tanca Manna (Gonnostramatza)

An important site in the central-western region, offering a glimpse into the evolution of Nuragic construction techniques.

Nuraghe Is Paras (Serri)

Known for its large, circular tower and surrounding settlement. It is located in the southern part of Sardinia.

Nuraghe Su Mulinu (Mogoro)

A less visited but important nuraghe, offering a clear example of the construction style of the period.

Nuraghe Ciuledda (Budduso)

A fascinating nuraghe located in the northern part of the island, not as famous as others, but still valuable to understand the cultural and architectural significance of the Nuragic period.

Nuraghe Monte d'Accoddi (Sassari)

This is an unusual nuraghe that has been interpreted as a "step pyramid," and it is notable for its resemblance to other Mediterranean cultic structures.

Nuraghe Turriga (Porto Torres)

Situated in the northwest, this nuraghe is a significant part of the Nuragic archaeological heritage in the region.
